Maddie started teaching in 2002 as a year 8 special education teacher in New York City. In 2004, Maddie was promoted to literacy coach, and in 2005 Maddie co-founded KIPP Infinity Charter school as a founding reading teacher and Director of Instruction. At KIPP Infinity, Maddie co-developed the literacy curriculum and supervised and instructionally coached seventeen teachers. In 2008, Maddie was the proud recipient of a national teaching award, awarded to ten teachers annually.
In 2011, Maddie moved to Australia and co-founded Parkville College, a trauma-informed school that serves incarcerated young people in Victoria. At Parkville College, Maddie advised the leadership staff, instructionally coached, and developed an instructional coaching program that trained lead teachers in best instructional coaching practices. In addition, Maddie was a lead consultant on the Berry Street Education Model for the Berry Street School, and she is currently advising school leadership on best practices in teaching and learning at the Berry Street School.
Maddie presents internationally on topics including raising academic achievement, curriculum development, improving literacy outcomes, and instructional coaching strategies. Maddie is the author of Reading Without Limits: Teaching Strategies to Build Independent Reading for Life, published by Jossey-Bass in 2013.
