BSEM Masterclass
School Belonging
- 18 October 2019
- 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM
The Berry Street Education Model Masterclasses are one-day offerings for participants who have already completed the Berry Street Education Model four-day training course.
These special masterclass days are valuable opportunities for educators to extend their knowledge, re-connect and further their application of the model. Our masterclasses are a great way to collaborate with like-minded educators in our growing community of practice.
While each class has a different focus, we have designed the program to be informed by research, anchored in practice, and aimed at building sustainability and consistency in the Berry Street Education Model across a whole-school approach.

School Belonging
A sense of belonging is a fundamental human need. Alarmingly, research tells us that one in four students does not feel like they ‘belong’ to school. Loneliness has become an epidemic and adolescents are an age group at risk. What can be done?
In this innovative masterclass, The Berry Street Education Model introduces a topic of fundamental importance: school belonging. Fostering belonging in students has widespread benefits, with positive outcomes that extend well into adulthood.
Schools are ideal places to build lasting connections and stand ready to make a difference. This masterclass opens doors for creating connected and inclusive classrooms and schools.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be provided with:
- An engaging, activity-based format
- An overview of school belonging theory and research
- Skills and resources to measure, evaluate, plan and embed school belonging practices
Participants will also learn about current strategies that are proven to increase a sense of school belonging.
All participants will leave the masterclass with a brief school belonging handbook that includes evidence-backed interventions, measurement tools, sample activities and resources for further reading.
Who Should Attend
This masterclass is an exciting opportunity for teachers and school leaders alike to embrace school belonging, an important focus for modern-day educational practices.
