This two day workshop is part of the Child and Family Wellbeing series. These workshops have been categorised into three levels to help you determine which workshop is right for you depending on your level of practice experience and your professional development goals. The Making of Us: How childhood experiences shape our being sits within Level 1: Foundations for Practice.

Level 1: Foundations for Practice: Building a Theoretical Base

Level 2: Digging Deeper: From Theory to Practice

Level 3: Mastering Your Craft: Engaging with Clinical Complexity

The Making of Us: How childhood experiences shape our lives, provides you with a solid theoretical and practice foundation that will give you the confidence to advocate and articulate the needs of the children and families you support.

Day one will introduce a model of thinking based on the principles of trauma informed care. This will guide your learning throughout the workshop.

From this foundation, we will explore Attachment theory, integrating practice tools from the internationally renowned Circle of Security model. Together, we will consider ways that you can create a sense of safety for children and their families.

The afternoon will be spent investigating the importance of strengthening relationships and the vital role that you can play in building resilience into your practice.

Day two begins with a discussion about childhood development and its dynamic interplay with our life experiences. This discussion will support our learning as we move into thinking about trauma and its impacts on relationships. The afternoon will be spent engaging with a strengths-based, cross-cultural practice tool.

Learning Outcomes
